This morning was the start of the TMA1431 Creative Stdio Module as part of term 2 on my Masters course. To start we were given the task to read and analyse 'Studio Olafur Eliasson' by Alex Coles, this is a short piece of text around ten pages long on the visits to Olafur Eliasson's studio. After reading and making notes throughout the text, the way in which Coles speaks of the studio spaces and the way in which different discipliners create work within these spaces.
Scanned documentation of 'Studio Olafur Eliasson' annotated by me.
Coles explored this studio space a few times and noticed that the practitioners that worked there seemed to be putting a performance on each time he visited, making him think they were hiding something but in fact it was just the way of working in these studios.
'Since 2008, Studio Olafur Eliasson's enormous macro-studio has been housed in a converted brewery in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg.'
Eliasson can transform empty buildings in any state and see if as part of the studio family in a way, why had these beautiful old buildings abandoned when creatives can use them as practice spaces and having different discipinaries on each section of these studios.
After this session we were back with Roddy and Rowan to go through the module specs and the brief handbook for this module, I have these printed and highlighted key sections such as the Formative and Summative assessment criteria along with the learning outcomes.
